How Do DPDP Rules Work?
The DPDP framework puts you in control. Every company or department (called Data Fiduciary) needs to:
- Tell you up front what info gets used
- Show you how to change, erase, or get your data
- Answer within 90 days if you request changes
- Tell you quickly if there’s been a data leak or breach
- Hire a Data Protection Officer (big companies only)
- Let kids’ data be handled only with parent approval—using checks like Aadhar or school records
- Support persons with disabilities through legal guardians for data tasks
Big players—called Significant Data Fiduciaries—must run yearly privacy audits and report findings. If a child’s data is used, rules get extra strict, focusing on healthcare, education, safety, and never more than what’s needed.
Timeline: When Do These Changes Happen?
